| Spain Are Crowned The Winners Of The Fifa Women's World Cup After They Beat England 1-0 In The Final. |
When Spain defeated England 1-0 in the Fifa Women's World Cup final at Stadium Australia in Sydney, England appeared to be a pale imitation of their finest selves. The Lionesses messed up at the grandest stage of them all, after being flawless throughout the tournament and without loosing even a single game, meaning that the long-awaited English desire for a World Cup triumph would remain for at least another three years.
Olga Carmona, the Spanish captain, scored in the 29th minute on a left-footed shot from the left-back, which proved to be the game-changer. Even though it was only her third international goal overall, it turned out to be her best one yet. Despite their best efforts, England could not compete with La Roja, who guided them throughout.
What do the numbers show?
Spain had 58% of the possession, 13 attempts, and five shots that were on goal, compared to England's eight attempts and three shoots that were on goal. Both teams received one yellow card each, although the Lionesses committed five offsides while Spain committed none. The team led by Jorge Vilda scored five corners, while Sarina Wiegman only managed to score two.

England women’s football team were out to complete the double of holding the European title (won Uefa Women’s Euro 2022 by beating Germany 2-1) as well as the world title. The long cry of, “It’s coming home” would once again remain unfulfilled. For their manager, it was once again a heartbreak as Wiegman lost in the final of 2019 as coach of the Netherlands as well. She was beaten by the USA.
